Safari extensions have received several updates this year:
-
Management Across Devices: Safari extensions can now be managed on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS with a new Safari extension configuration. This allows IT administrators to define which extensions are allowed, control whether an extension is always on or off, and configure extension website access by domain and subdomain. This management capability also works with Safari private browsing, providing users with a visual indication of which extensions are managed. (What’s new in device management)
-
Transparency and Control in macOS: macOS now provides system notifications when extensions are installed, making it easier to understand and control if and when your app is running. Extensions can be disabled in the login items and extensions settings window. (What’s new in privacy)
-
Unified Settings: Extensions for your app now live in one place in macOS system settings, simplifying the process of managing them. (What’s new in privacy)
These updates aim to provide better control, transparency, and ease of management for Safari extensions across Apple devices.
