Managed Apple Accounts are a special type of Apple account designed specifically for use in organizations such as businesses or schools. These accounts allow an organization to own both the account and the data within it, making them a key component for any deployment.

Here are some key points about Managed Apple Accounts:

  • Ownership and Data Control: The organization owns both the account and the data within it.
  • iCloud Support: Managed Apple Accounts support a wide range of Apple apps and services, including continuity, developer tools, and passkeys.
  • Domain Management: IT administrators can streamline the domain capture process and ensure all accounts are using the organization's domain. They can also limit new Apple accounts created on their domain to only be managed Apple accounts.
  • Conversion of Existing Accounts: Users have the option to convert their existing personal Apple accounts into managed Apple accounts. If they do not take action within 30 days, the account will remain personal and be renamed automatically.
  • Data Separation: Managed Apple Accounts enable data separation in iCloud Drive, Notes, Reminders, and more, ensuring personal data remains private even on organization-owned devices.
