At WWDC 2024, Apple introduced several new features for Safari extensions across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Here are the key updates:

  1. Management of Safari Extensions: IT administrators can now manage Safari extensions using a new configuration. This allows them to define which extensions are allowed, control whether an extension is always on or off, and configure extension website access by domain and subdomain. This feature also works with Safari private browsing, providing users with a visual indication of which extensions are managed.

  2. MDM Integration: Safari extensions can now be managed directly from Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems. This enables IT teams to customize Safari for their organization right out of the box.

  3. Transparency and Control on macOS: macOS now provides system notifications when extensions are installed, making it easier to understand and control if and when your app is running. Extensions can still be disabled in the login items and extensions settings.
