What's New in Animations at WWDC 2024
Enhance Your UI Animations and Transitions
- New High-Level Transitions: Introduced new transitions for navigation and presentations, including a new zoom transition in iOS 18. This transition allows a cell to morph into the incoming view and is continuously interactive, enabling users to grab and drag it around during the transition. (Enhance your UI animations and transitions)
- SwiftUI, UIKit, and AppKit Integration: Improved integration between SwiftUI animations and UIKit/AppKit, allowing for more seamless and powerful animations across these frameworks. (Enhance your UI animations and transitions)
- Interactive Spring Animations: New interactive spring animations that carry forward with continuous velocity, enhancing the fluidity of animations. (Enhance your UI animations and transitions)
What’s New in SF Symbols 6
- New Animation Presets: Introduced new universal animation presets such as Wiggle, Rotate, and Breathe. These presets allow for more expressive animations to elevate app interfaces. (What’s new in SF Symbols 6)
- Wiggle: Highlights changes or calls to action by oscillating a symbol in any direction or angle.
- Rotate: Spins parts of a symbol around a designated anchor point.
- Breathe: Smoothly scales a symbol up and down to indicate ongoing activity.
- Enhanced Existing Presets: Updates to existing presets, including a new magic replace behavior for the default replace animation, which smoothly animates badges and slashes. (What’s new in SF Symbols 6)
Compose Interactive 3D Content in Reality Composer Pro
- Blend Shape Animation: New features for blending between different shapes using blend shape animation.
- Skeletal Poses and Animation: Animate objects by rotating joints to pose them into various positions. (Compose interactive 3D content in Reality Composer Pro)
Platforms State of the Union
- SwiftUI Enhancements: SwiftUI now allows setting up animations on UIKit or AppKit views and driving them with SwiftUI, including fully custom animations. (Platforms State of the Union)

Compose interactive 3D content in Reality Composer Pro
Discover how the Timeline view in Reality Composer Pro can bring your 3D content to life. Learn how to create an animated story in which characters and objects interact with each other and the world around them using inverse kinematics, blend shapes, and skeletal poses. We’ll also show you how to use built-in and custom actions, sequence your actions, apply triggers, and implement natural movements.

What’s new in SwiftUI
Learn how you can use SwiftUI to build great apps for any Apple platform. Explore a fresh new look and feel for tabs and documents on iPadOS. Improve your window management with new windowing APIs, and gain more control over immersive spaces and volumes in your visionOS apps. We’ll also take you through other exciting refinements that help you make expressive charts, customize and layout text, and so much more.

Enhance your UI animations and transitions
Explore how to adopt the zoom transition in navigation and presentations to increase the sense of continuity in your app, and learn how to animate UIKit views with SwiftUI animations to make it easier to build animations that feel continuous.
