What's New for MDM at WWDC 2024

Apple introduced several new features and enhancements for Mobile Device Management (MDM) at WWDC 2024. Here are the key updates:

  1. Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager:

    • Automated Device Enrollment: Now available for Apple Vision Pro, allowing IT teams to enroll devices into MDM during the setup assistant process.

  2. Software Update Controls:

  3. Safari Extensions:

  4. VisionOS 2.0:

    • MDM Support: Expanded management capabilities for Apple Vision Pro, including new configurations, payloads, commands, and restrictions.
    • App Deployment: Similar app deployment process as iPhone and iPad, with added compatibility information for VisionOS.
  5. Security and Identity:

    • Team Identity for In-House Apps: Installing proprietary in-house apps using a new team identity will require a restart.
    • Platform Single Sign-On (SSO): Expanded capabilities to leverage identity provider information across more areas, including FileVault login and lock screen.
  6. Disk Management:

    • New configuration to manage external and network storage, replacing the deprecated media management payload.
  7. Education Enhancements:

    • Multi-App Mode for iPad: Includes secondary apps and the new calculator app, with configurations for assessment mode and MDM.
