At WWDC 2025, Apple introduced a new windowing system for iPad, which is a significant update in iPadOS 26. This system is designed to enhance multitasking and provide users with more control over their app windows. Here are some key features of the new windowing system:
-
Window Resizing: Apps can now be resized into windows using a grab handle located in the bottom right corner. This allows for a more flexible and customizable workspace on the iPad.
-
Window Controls: New window controls are available on the top left of every window. These controls expand to reveal functionality and shortcuts for creating various window layouts, making multitasking more efficient.
-
Expose Feature: Users can swipe up from the bottom and hold to see all open windows, allowing for quick switching between apps.
-
Menu Bar: A new menu bar is introduced, providing easy access to app features and enhancing the overall user experience.
-
Tiling and Arrangement: Windows can be arranged by flicking them towards the edges to tile, and there are options for resizing and arranging multiple windows simultaneously.
These updates are designed to work seamlessly with both touch and trackpad inputs, and they are available on all iPads running iPadOS 26, including iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad, and iPad Mini. The new windowing system also integrates well with Stage Manager and external displays, offering a more powerful multitasking experience.
