At WWDC, Apple introduced several new features and improvements for SwiftUI. Here are some of the highlights:
-
Graphics and Visual Enhancements: SwiftUI now includes new graphics capabilities, such as a mix modifier on colors for blending, and extended custom shader features with precompiled shaders to avoid frame drops. There are also new APIs for scroll views, allowing for more control over scroll positions and content alignment (What’s new in SwiftUI).
-
Performance Improvements: Significant performance enhancements have been made, particularly for lists and scrolling. On macOS, lists with over 100,000 items load six times faster, and updates are up to 16 times faster. Scrolling performance has also seen major improvements (What’s new in SwiftUI).
-
Integration with RealityKit: SwiftUI now offers more APIs to work alongside RealityKit, simplifying interactions and allowing for features like presenting SwiftUI popovers directly from RealityKit entities (What’s new in SwiftUI).
-
Widgets and Live Activities: Widgets have been expanded to Vision OS and CarPlay, with new APIs for relevance on watchOS and live activities on CarPlay (What’s new in SwiftUI).
-
Web Content and Rich Text: New web APIs allow embedding web content with WebKit's WKWebView API in SwiftUI, and there are new rich text editing capabilities (Platforms State of the Union).
-
3D and Spatial Features: SwiftUI now supports 3D charts and volumetric experiences, with new tools for layout-aware rotations and 3D support for many SwiftUI modifiers (What’s new in visionOS 26).
These updates make SwiftUI more powerful and flexible, enhancing its capabilities across all Apple platforms.
