In the session titled "What’s new in Wallet" from WWDC 2025, a new feature for payment pass issuers is the "Background Add Passes" capability. This allows apps to automatically add passes to Wallet without additional prompts after a one-time authorization from the user. This feature is particularly useful for users who frequently add passes, such as frequent flyers. The app can use the Add Passes API to add passes in the background, and Wallet will notify the user that a pass has been added. This process is similar to requesting permission to send push notifications.
For more details, you can refer to the session What’s new in Wallet (16:45).
